Judy drove Liz and Aaron back to Munich today. They stayed near the airport and returned the rental car, then took a train into Marienplatz for a last look around and another nice dinner at Opatija. There, they had the same Kosovar waiter from a previous visit. After chatting him up all evening, he brought them each a complementary shot of something he called "Shlivovic." I looked it up. It's basically plum brandy, distilled from Damson plums and is in a category of drinks called rakia in the Balkans. Judy described it as, "whew!!!"
She got Liz and Aaron on their plane and caught a train back to Innsbruck, where I met her at the station at 11:30. On the journey, she sat with a young man from Australia who described his country as "Britain's rednecks;" a Slovakian woman who is living in Munich and has a Greek mother; and a philosophy professor in Innsbruck but commutes from Munich, where her husband works.
Judy related her story to me over some authentic Tirolean food before we came back for some rest.
