April 18: Basically, wandering around town before/after lunch with Kurt Matzler, the contact at MCI/University of Innsbruck who got me the class, and Todd Mooradian's co-author on a book. Kurt has also invited Judy and I to his house on Friday.
The day was absolutely beautiful, affording our best views yet of the mountains surrounding the city. While wandering around, we came across St. Jakob's church, very nearby. Really beautiful (and free).

After lunch, we checked out the Hofkirche and Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum, which are connected and have a common admission. the Hofkirche was built as a memoral to Emperor Maximillian I... actually, it was started by him but not finished until much later, and he's not in his tomb. But it's still pretty impressive.

The Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum is really neat, and deserved more time than we allowed for it. It is a collection of traditional Tirolean folk art and artifacts -- a great many but hardly all religious in nature. They range from tools to clothing to incredibly ornate chests and wardrobes to some alpine "zimmers:" rooms from traditional Tirolean homes that were deconstructed and re-assembled within the facility. Really impressive!
